Welcome to the North Peace Navigators Web Site

Willie O'Ree Community Hero Award

The Navigators prior head coach, Darcy Haugan, has been nominated for this year's NHL Willie O'Ree Community Hero Award. Darcy was a local hero here in Peace River with the many, many years that he devoted to developing young hockey players into upstanding young men giving back to their community. It was an honor to work with the man. His legacy will live on in every person he had contact with. We know who our vote will go to.....

VOTE FOR DACY HERE

IN HONOUR OF DARCY HAUGAN

Monday April 9, 2018

The North Peace Navigators Board met today to discuss how we will want to memorialize our friend, Head Coach, and General Manager Darcy Haugan.

Over the course of the next few months we will be developing the various means by which Darcy will be memorialized. In order to properly honor an iconic community leader such as Darcy we must first allow ourselves to grieve over his sudden loss. It is through the healing process that we may then collectively put into place the appropriate and lasting memorial tribute to our friend. We do know, the one thing Darcy would want most, is that we continue the Navigator organization, and deliver a team that reflected those goals and ideals, would build young men, and bring pride to our Community

We would like to encourage our Players, Alumni, Staff and Fans to channel their focus on a Celebration of Darcy’s life that will be hosted at our home game opener in September of 2018. We would like to extend an invitation to all of our Alumni to come and be a part of that celebration.

We want to thank everyone for the texts, emails, and phone calls of condolences. The support has been wonderful and meaningful as we all go through this time of deep sorrow.

Thank you

DARCY HAUGAN/HUMBOLDT BRONCOS

On behalf of the North Peace Navigators Board, Coaching staff, Players, Volunteers, and fans we want to express our most sincere condolences to Christina, her boys Carson and Jackson and Darcy’s parents Leroy and Shirley Haugan on the tragic death of Darcy.

Darcy was a critical part of our team. It was Darcy I went to when I first had the idea to bring Jr Hockey to Peace River. Darcy helped me build the program, and hire Coaches to get us started. Our goal was quite simply to build an exceptional program that focussed on helping to develop young men on and off the ice that would be role models for the young kids in our Community!  Our record over the years is a clear result of Darcy’s work.

Darcy eventually returned to Peace River and took on the role of Head Coach and General Manager. Over the years that he coached we won several Championships, and Provincial Banners. Christina and Darcy’s parents worked tirelessly, helping the team by cooking meals, working as volunteers and even billeting players.

We are all so proud of Darcy, his faith, his love for his family, and his knowledge and love of the game has touched all of us. His contribution to the Navs, cannot be described in words. He changed lives of young men that have been part of the team, and his impact on our community cannot be measured!

Our prayers go out for all those affected by this tragedy.
