Billet Homes

We are seeking billet homes for the 2022-2023 Season!

The North Peace Navigators Billet Family Program plays a major role in our team's success both on and off the ice. Being a Billet Family is both a wonderful and rewarding experience.  It takes special people to open their homes and hearts to our players and we take the utmost care to ensure our players are placed in environments that are conducive to care, understanding and safety. This experience is a great way to get involved in the community, as well as develop some very special bonds with our Navigator players and their families.

We ask that our players be treated like any other member of the billet family.  For many of the players, this will be their first time away from home and they are in need of a stable living environment for their move to Peace River.   It is important that the player respect the rules of his host family and the host family respect the rules of the hockey club. The values and principles for success that are essential to become a member of North Peace Navigators will be demanded at the rink, in the home, in the community and in school.

In the billet homes, the players are encouraged to become involved with the family that has so generously welcomed them. As a member of the household, the players are expected to share in the daily chores as well as maintain their own rooms and do their own laundry. On occasion, the players may have to look after their own meals, if the billets are away.

The players will have a very structured schedule for the entire time they will be placed in your home.  Some players may still be in school and others are encouraged to find part-time employment. The team has a set curfew that all of the players need to abide by in order for our team to be successful.

Below we have included the guidelines for billets for the upcoming season.

Billeting Guidelines and Rules

The following guidelines have been set and agreed on by both players and management.

1. Abuse of any substance will not be tolerated. The hockey team enforces curfew and rules on alcohol and banned substances; this is addressed with the entire team during training camp.

2. Curfews are for the benefit of these athletes. Players are to be at their own billet homes by 10:30pm. Nights before a game, curfew is set at 10:00pm. On home game nights, all players are to be at their own billet home by 12 midnight. Away games, the players are to be home within 1/2 hour of arrival back at the rink. Special nights will be given off by management.

3. Players are to have their own room with a bed and good mattress, a dresser and/or closet, and a suitable private area with good light & desk space for studying / homework. Access to a printer is beneficial for those players attending school.

4. A player may share a room with another player, but NOT with another member of the billet family.

5. Players must get permission from management and notify the billet family well in advance of leaving Peace River. It is important for players to share where they are going and when to expect them back.

6. Players, if registered, must attend all classes, either high school or post secondary including after away games. Players should give the billet family a timetable of their classes.

7. Players who are not in school are encouraged to find a part time job or volunteer opportunities to contribute to the community in some fashion.

8. Players and billets should discuss meals to determine likes, dislikes and any food sensitivities or allergies.

9. Players are expected to eat a balanced diet, so meals should be wholesome and varied. High carbohydrate, low fat diets are ideal. Vegetables are important to maintain proper tissue and cell repair.

Flexibility on behalf of the billet family and players is needed in this area.

10. Billets should talk with the player to determine preferences in meal times. Pre-game meals are important, on average, players should eat 3 hours before a game, but this may vary. If no one is home and the player cannot prepare a meal, then plans to reheat a meal should be made.

11. Players are to inform their billet family well in advance if they will not be home for a meal; consideration must be made for the time and money spent on meal preparation.

12. Players should take the initiative to make their own meals and volunteer around the house when billets require assistance (e.g. bringing in groceries, shovelling snow, etc.).

13. Players are responsible for their own toiletries such as shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, etc.

14. Players are responsible for doing their own laundry and for the cost of any drycleaning.

15. There are to be no visitors at the billet's home after curfew hours or at any time unless proper arrangements and understandings have been made by the players and their billet family. Girlfriends are not to be allowed in the player’s bedrooms. NO SLEEP OVERS

16. Support, communication, and clear understanding are vital keys to success. Ensure you talk to your player about expectations. Communication is the key to success and things that are not acceptable in your home may have been in theirs. Players shall live by their billet’s house rules. Unaddressed problems may become bigger issues (e.g., shower use, lights left on, dishes, shoes in the house, tidiness, etc.)

17. The most important rule is good communication and mutual respect.

18. Billet families will receive payment for housing and season tickets for their billet household.

19. If the billet family is going away for vacation, the Billet Coordinator is to be notified and accommodations will be provided for the player.

The above guidelines are subject to change.

We appreciate your valuable contribution to the Navigator Hockey Club.
